Swedish Ducks

DSCN6372

These ducks are careful creatures, with little to no defence mechanisms they have to be. They had gone outside to avoid my bustling around the barn. I held the camera and waited for their return to get this picture – I love their inquisitive looks.

These are Swedish Ducks. I bought half a dozen in the fall. Four became food, these two will hopefully have some ducklings this spring. They are lovely birds.

I bought half a dozen of these ducks in the fall. Four became food, these two will hopefully produce more food. They are lovely birds. I am not sure which one is male and which one is female – I know ! I know ! I could Google it and find the answer but refuse to! I thought the fancy bird – ┬áthe fluff on the head (in this photo the one with the square head) was the male. Then I saw the plain duck mounting the fancy duck and using the fluff on the head as a handle to hold on. A wonderful feature! I’ll know for sure when/if one of them goes broody. Until then don’t tell me! I am enjoying my little barnyard mystery. Google has shortened Curiosity’s life hasn’t it?
